All white at last

Andy and Heather from Ice and Fire holidays are back with us for another season of blogs from Montchavin / La Plagne, and with a new addition: Chalet Bon Vie in Plagne Villages. Firstly though, the SNOW. And proof that it has been falling in Paradiski at last … Andy reports.

Here at Ice and Fire we are getting set up for the season and are busy setting up the new chalet in Plagne Village. We thought we would stay up there for a night to get a good feel for the chalet and give it a bit of a test run. We asked a couple of friends round for dinner and settled in for the night; on waking the next morning we were pleasantly surprised with the first major snowfall of the season.

Now where did I put that shovel???

It’s often a bit of a gamble booking early season, but get it right and you will have empty pistes and freshly groomed snow that stays nice and firm. Here in La Plagne and Les Arcs we have more than 70% of the skiing above 2000m and two glaciers which means that we are blessed with some of the best early season skiing in Europe.

Over the last few days we have seen heavy snow falls to resort levels and the temperatures have been dropping steadily. Over the next few days we are expecting a huge 40-50cm of fresh snow and it is currently snowing all the way down to Bourg Saint Maurice which is at the bottom of the valley.

The piste bashers are hard at work preparing the pistes and the lift company are making final preparations for La Plagne’s opening on the 10 December.

Speaking to some of the locals who have lived here all their lives, there is a legend about a wild blue flower which only grows tall in summers preceding a very snowy winter, this year they have been going wild! Lets hope they are right!!
