We have been sent some nice pictures of the snowfall in Avoriaz, France last week. No need for many words to set the scene!

…to this in a day
Reader David Maxwell-Lees writes: We had superb sunny weather between 14th and 19th January, then WOW, we had over a metre of snow in 30 hours. The avalanche danger is still very high, and all the upper slopes around the village were closed. As we left at 4am, we could hear mortars being set off every 10-15 minutes. The snow kept on falling at the same rate as we left. It is the first time since 1982 that we have had to have a lift from our accommodation by a small piste basher.

Wrapping up for the snow
As you can see from the pictures, French resorts are generally doing well very at the moment. See also the deep cover in Chamonix – posted in our Snow section.
