Serre Chevalier in white - 8 Dec 2011

The snow is piling up again in Serre Chevalier, so what a great time to welcome back to our blog pages Mel Crosby from Eurekaski…with some lovely pics of how it’s looking out there right now…

Back at the end of October we had a foot of snow in the village at 1500 metres, and the locals were saying it was going to be a mammoth winter. Then the sun came out, and stayed out until just two days ago. It snowed for a good 36 hours in Serre Chevalier up until last night, and there’s a reported 45cm of fresh stuff at altitude (so says the Snowpark).

In Les Guibertes village, 15cm of fresh snow sat on garden chairs and tables yesterday afternoon, and today the sun’s back out and the views are spectacular.

Serre Chevalier opened it’s highest sector Le Monêtier Les Bains last weekend – just for the weekend, and some 1500 skiers took to the pistes above the Bachas chair lift. This coming weekend the resort opens for the season – can’t wait!

The skiing will be limited below 2000 metres (awaiting latest news from the tourist office) but we can confirm that a total of 22 lifts will be running, across all stations i.e. Monêtier, Villeneuve, Chantemerle and Briançon. The links may not be open but the free shuttle bus can take you from one part of the valley to another with ease.

Off to plan a photoshoot with EurekaSKI’s new nanny – will send more news as it comes in!
