Why not go in January?

With the season in full swing, Heather and Andy at Ice and Fire have been hard at work with their new chalet. Heather reports, and sends us her thoughts on January skiing:

It has been absolutely manic running the chalet and doing the bookings at the same time – especially as we’ve been pretty much full up until now. Great news for the business . . . .but hard to remember to blog when you’re washing up for 24!!

January often gets a bad press with British skiers because the weather is colder, and it falls completely outside of the school holidays. But among seasonaires it is a firm favourite; and guests who try it often come back year after year.

Our number one favourite thing about January is that it is typically quieter on the pistes than the rest of the season, so you spend longer on your skis and less time in lift queues. If you’re into the park skiing or boarding it’s a must as well, with many of the pros using the quieter snow parks to get some practise in.

For anyone who is a fan of fluffy powder snow, a January ski holiday is hard to beat – there has been masses of snow across the Alps over the last few weeks. Here in Les Coches we’ve had over 30cms in the last week alone, that’s plenty of snow for the powder hounds out there!

It is a good month to get some extra tuition in too; outside the school holidays there is often plenty of space in the ski schools. Less demand for lessons means more one-to-one time in group lessons, and your pick of instructors for private tuition.

If you’re looking to bag a bargain, now is a great time to look: here at Ice and Fire we’re offering a four night break from 19 to 23 January for only £299, and Where to Ski and Snowboard has got some great deals in their ‘Bargains’ zone.
