The new Kode 30

Osprey has launched a set of three snow sport rucksacks that are specially designed for cutting the weight when ski touring – or simply skiing for that matter.

Whether ski touring, snowshoeing or just out in the mountains all day, we don’t really want a to be adding to the weight of equipment we wear and carry about. But then it’s hard not to go outdoors these days without some needing some form of pack.

The new Kode series of rucksacks has the skier firmly in mind: sections for shovels, helmets, wet and dry gear, attaching your board or skis. But more than that, extreme skier Fredrik Ericsson has worked with Osprey to produce some of the lightest bags on the market.

The Kode 38 is believed to be the lightest snow sport pack around, weighing in at under 40g per litre.

For outdoor enthusiasts, we’re used to looking for plenty of technical features too (that’s probably the outdoor nerd in us all …). So each bag has a back panel, thermo-compression moulded for comfort. There’s a place for your goggles – neat, as they always seem to slide to the bottom of the pack otherwise.

A very neat feature of the 30l and 40l packs is the back entry access, which means the dry compartment at the back stays dry. A zip makes it easier to access your kit without removing the bag from your back too – simply unhook the harness and swivel around.

The Kode series is available in 22, 30, or 40 litres sizes and in two colours. Prices start at £80.
