Winter continues to hang on in north America at the moment, with the open Canadian resorts reporting excellent conditions for April.

Whistler’s recent snowfall has bumped it up from the third snowiest season to the second! A whopping 14m snow has fallen throughout the year. They received another few centimetres at the weekend and there is more forecast. Similarly Banff’s trio of resorts have enjoyed a powder fest to close out the winter too: 20-30cm has fallen in all three ski areas, with Sunshine Village (188cm) reporting the most. There is plenty of fresh powder on offer for late season visitors there. All lifts are open and snow flurries set to continue.

In the US, Mammoth Mountain has been blessed with excellent late season conditions and its best snowfall since 2005/06. For the 11th time in the resort’s history, they plan to stay open in to July! With nearly a metre of snow in the first week of April, topping up a 3-4m settled snow base, there shouldn’t be any problems keeping to that plan then. Apparently, Horizon Air’s flights to the resort will continue in to the summer as well. Squaw Valley is also doing very well indeed. And further north in Timberline, another dump has arrived to keep their extra long season on track too. In Colorado, Arapahoe Basin usually continues operations until June; they too have received fresh snow during the past few days, with more forecast. Like Loveland, the pair make a good choice as a close outing from Denver.
