If you want winter right now, Canada has got it all! Well, Whistler Blackcomb actually: the resort has just announced record-breaking November snowfall, and it’s still snowing …

Whistler Blackcomb is getting a runaway start to the season, with over half a metre of snow last night (Wednesday 18 November), two metres of snow in a week and four metres in total so far. The Canadian resort opened last Saturday 14 November – 12 days earlier than planned – and with substantial snowfalls. And it just keeps falling …

It is too early to say whether this bumper snowfall will ‘maketh’ another great winter, but skiers and riders were able to hit the fresh powder last weekend. And with this snow falling now, the upper mountain will be developing a good snow base. More lifts are expected to run from this weekend and Blackcomb Mountain is scheduled to open from 26 November.

The snow hasn’t been confined to one resort, though is hasn’t been falling in such great quantities. Banff has received about 25cm in the past few days, with snow forecast until Sunday – followed by sunshine! Lake Louise currently has six lifts running, with Larch and Ptarmigan opening on Friday 20 November. Sunshine Village (104cm) also plans to expand terrain.

Sun Peaks is another resort that opened early for the season, and has enjoyed good recent snowfall: 50cm this week. The resort has quite a bit of terrain open, served by eight lifts. Elsewhere, Big White is open and being refreshed by daily top-ups.

And check out the webcam picture from Jasper’s Marmot Basin today: The resort has reported over 80cm snow in the past week; much of the mountain is now open.

Jasper’s Marmot Basin – lower slopes on 19 November!
