Snow snippets: 25 June

Starting well
As more resorts open in the southern hemisphere, so we’re receiving reports of good snowfalls to start the winter in Argentina.
The latest news is that some resorts are enjoying up to half a metre of new snow, with good skiing on offer at Las Lenas.
Las Lenas opened a week ago and has a reasonable snow base for the time of year. Cold temperatures are expected the last for the next few days, but the sun is revealing a good snow-filled picture of the resort on Friday 25 June. This year will be the resort’s first to be included on Vail Resorts Epic lift pass; so for regular skiers to the US using this pass, it might prove an interesting ‘summer’ diversion.
Further south, Chapelco opens this weekend, also with fresh snowfall. The resort is quite small, just 140 acres, though much larger Cerro Catedral (103km pistes) is already open for the season; but it is a bit warmer there at present, in contrast to the other areas, with some rain. The area is boasting lift improvements this season, including a new triple chair.
