Here are the latest snow pics from Samoëns in the Grand Massif, and just over the hill from Flaine. They were sent in by our friends at Peak Retreats who received them from the tourist office – and as you can see the higher slopes are beginning to fill in nicely with this weeks snowfalls, though it’s not enough for snow sports just yet.

And for the lift companies, it has been a race against time to get the new lifts installed before the snow arrived. But they have done it, and when the ski season kicks off in Samoëns in the next few weeks there will be a fast new lift to ride.

The Chariande Express replaces two of the resorts old double chairs and a draglift. The six-pack runs from the Samoëns mid-station at 1536m, up to 2119m – 2262m long and with a ride time of just six minutes. That’s quite a saving of 15 minutes or so on the old lift; more at peak times.
