We are a family of father/son 56/13 both advanced skiers and one returning from serious injury +/_- as to whether will ski or not.
We spent several years in Lech/Zuers loving it and a couple of injury prone but good years in Zermatt. @ skiers have just returned from great near off piste fortnight in Niseko/Rusutsu.
We are looking for 2 Europeran resorts initially 10 days over New Year for the advanced skiers followed by 3 weeks in January for the full family. the resorts must be as snow sure as possible with plenty of off slope stuff in the 2nd resort - the first can be very quiet just with great skiing. would prefer transfers between be straight forward if not necessarily very quick. All advice gratefully accepted.

Innsbruck?

It has several ski resorts close by as well as the Stubai Glacier which has snow all year round. You can get to Munich on the train from there.

Salzburg, also worth considering.

barnsleybob, you have me somewhat confused. Is the following what you mean? (Please correct all points I’ve got wrong and fill in blanks)

1) 2 advanced skiers (males, will be 57 and 14 respectively next season) in one resort for 10 days starting Dec29 or 30, 2012

2) Transferring then to a different resort (would you be willing to cross half Europe, or must it be served by the same airport?) to be joined by a third family member (age and sex unspecified), the one who was injured before - sorry to hear that - coming separately from home, who may or may not want to ski. (Choosing between advanced skiing or not at all? or looking for gentle runs? Anyone injured two years running in Zermatt should seriously reconsider who he/she skis with)

NB meet in resort, or go collect from airport? Hire car?

3) The three of you go home together after 3 weeks away for the third person, a full month for the first two.

Lucky(?) son being allowed all that time away from school.
