I remember Wendy remarking once she wasn’t quite certain about being identified here by the “Chococat” icon. Whatever the story behind that, it fit the happily-enjoying-life personality she showed us. One never thinks one might lose someone like her so young. Thank you editor Chris for thinking to e-mail us all. My deepest sympathy to all her colleagues (and of course to her partner and family.)

Sad sad news, and so unexpected, I had no idea she was so ill.  She seems to have just kept going as normal, her usual enthusiastic self, always willing to give advise to us all. I know its a much used phrase, but, in this case I am sure she will be greatly missed.

My sympathy to her partner, family and all friends and colleuges.

RIP Wendy.

Thanks to those who have posted here.

May I also use this post to thank the many readers who have replied directly to me following yesterday’s email newsletter. To respond individually to you all would be a bit of an emotional strain at the moment, so I hope you will forgive me for resorting to this.

Wendy’s devotion to the Where to Ski and Snowboard project was extraordinary, and I think the tide of appreciation and affection that has flooded my inbox in the last 24 hours shows what a fantastic job she did for us.

Wendy’s partner Stewart has asked that all messages of condolence we receive be passed on to him, and I will be doing that after the weekend, when the flow has dried up.

best wishes

Chris Gill

My condolences to all the people that care about Wendy. It seems that she lived a life full by the things that made her happy, so let’s keep that. It’s an achievement that few people can accomplish…

Aplogies for the lateness of the reply, but I’m only just catching up with the truly sad news about Wendy. Her ethusiasm, evident from her blogs and other postings on the site, belied her personal struggle with ill health, of which most of us I’m sure were unaware. She will be sorely missed…

My condolonces go to her partner, family, friends and colleagues.

It looks as though Wendy’s id here has been cancelled: understandably, but the consequence is that everything she wrote here has been wiped out: the threads she started, and her replies in other people’s, so her observations will live on only in our memories. Unless it is not too late to restore the whole forum database from a back-up.

I regret to say that the closure of Wendy’s admin account has had some very unfortunate effects, some of which we are unable to rectify. Among these is the deletion of her contributions to these forums.

In principle, we could have restored the whole site from a back-up; in practice, by the time I came to recognise the extent of the problem and settle on the solution, our backup system no longer contained a suitable backup copy. It is all very sad, and I offer my apologies to all concerned.

Apart from the removal of Wendy’s contributions to the forums, her contributions to the main site are now attributed to me.
When we have finished the new edition, I will set up a new account in Wendy’s name and rectify the attributions in the main site. Her contributions to the forum, sadly, are no longer retrievable.
