A perfect resort for late March. We were lucky with 4 days of cloudless skies and excellent snow above about 2300m. Lower down it was a bit icy in the mornings and slush after 3pm. Beware the reds above Valtourenche under the Bec Carre lift which get dangerously icy even in the afternoons.
Not a pretty resort but with a pleasant pedestrian street and reasonable prices - 8 euros for a coffee and a big beer mid mountain at Plan Maison compared with 13 euros for the same in Zermatt on the other side of the pass (and no loos). There is one big supermarket at the lower end of town.
The Hotel Europa is perfectly placed very close to the Cretaz lift (the quick way to the top in the mornings). Rooms are large, suites actually, in the minimalist modern Italian style, with two small balconies but no outside chairs. Good spa and helpful staff. Dinner (half board) was really disappointing - huge quantities of heavy, tasteless overcooked food. Anything cold - breakfast, buffet and dessert was fine. Very helpful staff both at the front desk and in the restaurant.
