If you are thinking of taking up skiing or are looking for a place to take the kids somewhere that you will be able to have a brilliant days skiing too, I would like to recommend Squaw Valley in California.
I just wish someone had taken me there to learn instead of the Lecht in Scotland, Why?:
Squaw has perfect snow on the simply huge beginners slopes which are almost at the top of the mountain, they are accessed by two cable cars so there is no requirement to embarrass yourself falling off the lift at least 3 times which is a common occurance with the Lecht’s button pomas!
Other reasons?
Great English language lessons
Superb views
Lovely weather
Top notch accommodation
Cheap (or free) lift passes for kids
Shared lift pass with other great resorts
Lots to do off the slopes, particularly day trips to Reno and Virginia City to see an old wild west town.
Can be incorporated into a non skiing holiday for those who are not sure if skiing will be for them.
