Anyone know when is the best time to try to get a ski job as a chalet host for this season? I heard it was August but then some friends told me there’s a jobs fair in London on October. Have had a look at some sites like http://www.jobswithoutdesks.com and http://www.ski-jobs.co.uk but I’m not sure if I should apply online or wait to meet an employer face to face. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

I’d start applying now - Get as much information as you can too - then if you don’t have something by jobs-fair time, you’ll know what to look/ask for. But the pick of the jobs will go early on, so you’ll also have a better choice now.

We have a short ‘Jobs’ chapter in the new edition of the book too that outlines the basics.

Try some of the independent operators: they usually have a jobs section on their websites - Ski Beat for example are recruiting now.

Natives.co.uk is a very good starting point too.

Since Wendy posted we have put the latest “jobs in the mountains” feature online, here:

To find a ski job there are two basic methods: apply in advance or turn up in resort and find a job on the spot. The former offers more security and probably the best chance of securing some of the best jobs in popular resorts. Having said that, hundreds of people do take their chances by turning up in resort every season and hoping for the best!
