Can anyone recommend a resort for the end of March. We are early intermediates and would like to get a week in at the end of the season.
Thanks

I’d aim for a high resort this year, given the recent snow conditions. Of course, that could all change in the next few weeks but it depends when you are thinking of booking.

Obvious suggestions would be France’s Three Valleys - I had a great March week in Val Thorens and another in Paradiski (La Plagne / Les Arcs). Both areas offer great intermediate skiing.

But I’d also consider somewhere like Saas Fee, Switzerland.
It is a lot smaller in terms of piste mileage, but high with glacier skiing and a good proportion of easier runs. But you can also explore two smaller areas across the valley (accessible by bus) - Saas Grund and Saas Almagell - which have some long runs and would be quieter than the French resorts.

And the scenery is stunning; the village a model of Alpine idyll. At the end of March it will also be sunnier - it is shady earlier in the season, when the high summits block the low winter sun.

Accommodation there is cheaper than in other Swiss favourites and most probably favourable in comparison with France too (unless you find a late season special).

In Italy, Cervinia has some of the best intermediate skiing around - long, gentle runs. It is a high resort too, so you should certainly consider putting this one on your shortlist!

Based on the past 5 years you still get decent snow in pretty every decent French Alps resort in March (season ends at end of April and April has been pretty good too). If you want an absolute guarantee I would recommend Les Deux Alpes (still skiing there in August) see http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/default.cfm/loadindex.71 Oz-en-Oisans http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/default.cfm/loadindex.296 and Vaujany http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/default.cfm/loadindex.70 both part of Alpe d’Huez (glacier resort). You can also look at Tignes [url=“http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/default.cfm/loadindex.49.”>

If</a> a 98% guarantee is enough then I would look at Grand Massif (Flaine)resorts such as Samoens see <a class=“forum” target=“_blank”]http://www.peakretreats.co.uk/default.cfm/loadindex.49.[/url] Samoens is a hugely pretty resort just an hour from Geneva airport, or one of the closest to drive from Calais and has a massive 265km of slopes - ideal for intermediates.

St Foy, in the tarentaise valley generally still has good snow towards, the end of the season. Its is a small resort and is a lot less busy than other resorts. We stayed at Premiere Neige. It is a haven for off-piste ski-ing.
