Resort report on Soll in austria on march 14 2010. Snow conditions were excellent with all the runs skiable even down to the valleys. soll seems to cater for everyone with loud and quiet bars, and if you got a spare 5 mins go inside the church to have a look, its a real treat. the toboggan run is great fun and most people in soll seemed to be enjoying themselves, the ski runs are suitable for everyone so mixed ability partys will love it. my only grumble, and this will stop me going anywhere in Austria again is the smoking, everybody smokes, and when you find a nice mountain restaurant for dinner and have to pass a 60 year old chain smoking woman at the till its very off putting. but for skiing and scenery soll is lovely.

Thanks Rose.

Yes, pity about the smoking isn’t it.  Why are the Austrian’s so resistant to banning it in the same manner as most other Alpine countries now, I wonder. It was so much better in Switzerland this year - even in the canton that voted against the ban, most folk were taking their ciggies outside the huts.

We were Soll a few years back (found that smoking in Ellmau was less noticable). The hotel we were based in had a really nice bar, but the constant blue fug of smoke forced us to try other venues. Mind you the Spanish resorts are even worse; you need a respriator to enter some of those.
