Hi folks

Just following on from our Greek feature, there are of course quite a few ski resorts close to the coast – from the exotic (Turkey, Lebanon) to those closer to home (Isola 2000). Might work well for groups where one of the party doesn’t want to ski.

Anyone ‘been there, done that’ with the ski n beach combination?

I don’t think this is what you had in mind but Nevis Range is very close to some of Scotlands most stunning coastline. However if there is decent snow on the mountain, I think that swimming or sunbathing is likely to be limited to the masochist!

Well, we thought we would start the thread as a bit of fun really -  see if anyone had planned a trip that way.

I’ve skied a fair bit in Scotland and Nevis Range is a favourite haunt when combined with a winter hiking trip - never plan a ‘proper’ ski holiday up there, but it’s great for a couple of days before heading off for some island hopping.

Haven’t quite been brave enough to swim though ... maybe a paddle!  But have actually enjoyed a rare late spring ski when it was warm enough to sunbathe -  April can be fabulous up there.

Have you skied Scottish slopes too?

The local Vancouver mountains or, if you don’t mind a bit of a trek, Whistler.  A friend of my wife’s and mine is a Vancouver local, she mentioned some of her friends had done the “Ski & Scuba” day - spend the morning skiing, and the afternoon scuba diving.  Presumably with a dry suit, and taking into account the diver’s tables about changes in altitude, depth you can dive to etc.

Yes, or stay in Granada where it is warm and good food. Then take the bus to Sierra Nevada resort - it is about 20 mins by car or 35 mins by coach. I skied in Lake Tahoe (Mount Rose) in morning and then was in the desert 30 minutes later! That was wierd as Virginia City (of Western fame) is about 1 hour or so from Lake Tahoe.

I love scotland Learnt to ski in Scotland,  a ski instructor said to me once “if you can ski well in Scotland you can ski anything anywhere” think he was refering to the conditions of the weather and the slopes. Its definently different.
