Hi all

Following on from our general school holiday dates feature, we wondered if readers had experiences of ‘special’ or other local holidays to avoid / or annual events that they have found particularly crowded in resort. Where and when?

A typical example is the North American President’s Day holiday weekend: a February bank holiday when the slopes are particularly crowded. A trip Breckenridge during PD weekend a few years back brought long queues for lifts, fully booked restaurants etc.

Carnival Week in Italy is another. While there is no official half term in Italy - this mid-February event brings families flocking to the slopes.

Ah yes ... the German equivalent of Mardi Gras!  I had some friends working near Munich this year who said the place was fully booked and very busy.  But I think also there are regional variations on dates too. And doing a bit of a search seemed to suggest Switzerland has a carnival week too - a bit later. Hmmm!
