We are looking at booking a week in Maria Alm in February and just wondered if anyone has been and can give us some information on the skiing/Apres/General good points and Bad.

Thanks in advance

Have not skied there - only there for a day trip in summer whilst at Kaprun. Seriously beautiful village. Skiing locally looks a bit limited but I’m sure it’s part of the Ski Amade network???? so loads of skiing to found nearby http://www.austrian-adventures.com is run by a British couple who live in Radstadt (which I think is nearby).

Had a very good and very snowy trip to the Hochkonig area 3 years ago. Did not stay in Maria Alm but stayed above Mulbach in a hotel which was severed by ski/post bus. Good value and high quality accommodation. The ski area has lots to commend it, good sign posting and well prepared pistes. Off piste available and very enjoyable but needs to be planned with a map or with guide if you are new to it. Restaurants offered good food and good value. Maria Alm is the main resort focus with more going on and has a variety of places to eat out. Mulbach tends to be hotel based. Arthurhaus below Hocheil is a good mountain hotel/restaurant with a small area to ski above it which is I have not seen crowded at all. The place is child friendly and lessons can be had from the door. An interesting but technically easy off piste route sets off from the top here with tree skiing, trail, followed by meadow skipping past farms etc. We drove out, but the place is easy to access from Salzburg by train and bus.
