Have received the new edition of the book and am enjoying reading it I an avid skier living in Australia have skied a few northern hemisphere resorts and find the book a great help when planning where to go next. Am interested to know where the cover picture is taken which resort and what run ?  thanks Sandra

It’s St Moritz, Switzerland, - at Corvatsch. I’ll ask Chris to tell us which run it is, but I believe it will be one of the reds from the Murtel-Corvatsch cable-car. The mountain shown (left peak) is Piz Bernina.

How’s the Australian skiing going at the moment - I have heard that it’s been a bumper season? What’s your favourite resort out there?

Update: it is the red run on the skier’s extreme right of the area; leading down to the Fuorcla Surlej refuge.

Sounds great. We’d love to hear more about the resorts - perhaps you’ll send us a short report and/or some pics. Enjoy planning your trip to Europe. Have you tried Switzerland before? It’s probably my favourite of the Alpine countries, with lots of fabulous skiing.

You know, I was wondering about the cover photo too.  Been to St Moritz several times but didn’t recognise it.  Any chance you could tell me where the cover photo on the 2008-09 guide was from? Regards Richard A

Hi Richard

The latest front cover photo (ie: WTSS 2009) is Chamonix - taken from Balme - Le Tour. And the small one on the back cover is Fernie.

Thanks Wendy.  By the way the WTSS book is great and an excellent reference to keep for annual brousing. For some reason I actually buy a fresh copy every year.  Quite sad really. You know, I might even start contributing..

Any guesses at the resort shown on the cover of WTSS2010? (You can see it on the home page.)

We buy the WTSS yearly and have had fun over the years identifying the front over piccie. But this year we’re stumped - church suggests Austria…..please put us out of our misery!

Well, I guess we’ve allowed the question to sit here long enough now.

Yes, as you say the church has an Austrian look. It’s the village of Berwang, in the Zugspitzarena area close to the German border and Garmisch.
