Hello…...
For next season I am looking for a ski resort, preferably in Austria, but will look at other places, that has wide green/Blue runs. This is to suit my wife who likes to ski but has the hand brake permanently on. She is not keen on the narrow runs. therefore I would like a place where she can enjoy the skiing more and build confidence.

I heard that Soll was a good place, but looking at videos on You tube it looks as if there is a lot of very narrow runs.

We have been skiing twice and we are now at different standards, so I need somewhere with good Blue/red runs.

We would also like a place where the ski school is good.

I know I am not asking a lot grin  But can anybody help
Thx

Do not forget Andorra. Soldeau has lots of wide gentle pistes and I believe the ski schools there have a good reputation. It is a bit more expensive than France and probably Austria and more difficult to get to, but the skiing is very suited to beginners.

Thx Wendy & John,

How about Soll, I spoke with a Guy who had been there and he said that there was some nice slopes to progress from / to that will build confidence for a nervous skier. Seen a few vidoes on You tube, but difficult to get a good conclusion. Can you help

John,

I would agree with Wendy that Saalbach-Hinterglemm is worth a look - lots of nice, wide blues and reds. No greens as such but if you have a nice wide blue, you don’t need a green…! Now some of them do get a bit steep in places, but here’s the best bit - the steeper bits also tend to be the widest - great if you need a bit of space to turn and for building confidence on the steeps.

Hi, I am looking for exactly the same : wide and easy green and blues with a bit more challenge for my partner. I wondered about Sweden, Norway and N America? Any suggestions in any country gratefully received!

A good one for me is Grand Massif (Samoens/Flaine/Morillon/Le Carroz).  The Morillon sector has one of the longest Green runs I have ever seen (think it is 4.5km).  This run also has a very charming “mountain restaurant”.  In the Flaine sector, you have wide runs for all levels.  I know several people that have had very good experiences with the French Ski School, including for their kids.

St Johann im Pongau which is only an hour by bus south of Salzburg is a good option. It has really good beginners areas with separation from the main home run. The main area is only served by chairlifts or gondolas and many are fast 6-seaters. Walkers are allowed on some of the chairs (the Panoramabahn for example) so people can meet up in the middle of the area for lunch etc.

thanks to everyone for the replies. We had three possible resorts to choose from, Andorra, Soll and la Thuile. Andorra transfer time 3 hours and the smoke comments put pay to that,  soll and La Thuile were about equal. After much deliberation we decided on Soll.  Hopefully a good choice
