Gosh Rose I totally agree. I fly from Prestwick in Scotland to all my Ski holidays. It’s 5 mins from my door and a perfect little airport used by Ryanair (as yet I’ve never experianced any problems). Grenoble was fantastic to fly to (took us 20 mins from landing to picking up our car) but it also took us ages to find the super U petrol station on our return. Still, now we know. I agree with everything John has said. He’s a fountain of knowledge and I’m all the wiser for him passing on all his tips.
For me the worst part of any ski trip is a big and very busy UK airport, where the prices are rediculous and you have to walk miles like a heard of sheep. So well done Prestwick Airport for making the journey start and end in such a civilised and pleasent way.
Being in the west of Scotland I find the information on the best short ski breaks no use to me. You need to be near a London Airport for most of the information to be relevent. Also as a very keen skier I agree with john in that most of us are skiers and not that interested in a spa break…. who has the time when you could be up in the mountains enjoying the white stuff.
I’d like to know which resorts are the best to get about. From the main accommodation to main lifts to ease of ski buses etc. FOr example I found Zell am See to look awkward from maps and info but in reality the ski area was fantastic and the nearby towns very easy to get to. St Anton is not so great from the ski bus point of view and I have many times resorted to taxis, althought it is still one of my favorite places to ski. There is no perfect ski resort and thank goodness for that for obvious reasons.

I think we should re-instate a "resorts for keeping the costs low" shortlist. It was in earlier editions of the book and quite a few folk ask about places to go that won’t break the bank…too much.

Picking up on what Gill said about the ease of access being London airport centric, I’d like to see a list of resorts within easy access of airports receiving flights from regional UK and Irish airports. I moved to Dublin a few years back and I’m finding it increasingly difficult to organise a cheap(ish) trip because of the lack of flight options.

Perhaps this wouldn’t be a top ten list but could be part of more general guide for the independent organiser.
