Ski operators are beginning to offer summer programmes to encourage year-round holidays in the mountains. As well as glacier skiing, there are plenty of adrenalin sports on offer at most resorts during the summer months to keep us fit and healthy ahead of next winter.

Erna Low Holidays is one such company, having launched ‘Holidays with Altitude’ in 2009. Following its success last summer, bookings have now opened for trips to major French resorts in 2010.

Adventure holidays are available in Les Arcs, Chamonix, Morzine, Les Deux Alpes and Serre Chevalier, where you’ll find plenty to keep you busy. It is possible to be skiing in the mornings and mountain biking in the afternoons, relaxing by the pool or going for a good hike. Many of the lifts stay open in summer, as well as plenty of mountain huts for refreshment.

Resorts often make available special summer activity passes, which provide access to lots of different sports. For example, Erna guests to Arc 1950 will receive a complimentary pass. In the Portes du Soleil, you can purchase a pass for a euro per day that covers over 50 activities and lifts.

Self-catering apartments start at £70 per person (based on eight people sharing a three-bedroom apartment in June). And if you fancy taking in a stage of the Tour de France, the cyclists will be whizzing through Morzine on 11-13 July; Erna Low has apartments for four starting at £183 per person.
