Aspen flights will continue

Less than a month after Frontier Airlines announced plans to pull out of routes to Aspen, the airline has said that its flights from Denver to the resort will continue for the coming winter season. So, the resort will not be reduced to one airline as previously expected.

Frontier will fly into Aspen-Pitkin County Airport from November, but increasing flights to four times daily from 16 December to April 2011. This is the same level of service offered as last year. Pre-season flights will be twice-daily from 18 November until 15 December.

Republic Airways, which owns Frontier, had announced plans to phase out the fleet of Bombardier Q400s that Frontier’s Lynx Aviation subsidiary flies into regional markets, including Aspen. Instead, three of the planes will remain available to serve Aspen, as well as Colorado Springs and Durango.

In another move to boost operations to Aspen, United Airlines has said that it will increase flights to the resort using additional connections from Chicago and San Francisco. Of more interest to British visitors though, will be its 12 daily flights to/froom Denver. These also start in December.
