Go dig! [Obertauern 2010 event]
Obertauern in Austria is gearing up for another round of the Gamsleiten Criterion from 21-25 April, when visitors can be seen digging all over the snow rather than skiing it.
Hundreds of keen Easter visitors will take part in the nation’s (it’s claimed) biggest treasure hunt, when thirty or so chests are buried around the ski area – each one containing a super prize.
The ultimate win is the car: a BMW X3. But there are bikes, phones, holidays and skis among the other goodies to be found.
It’s a five day event, with plenty of Easter spirit and parting in the resort. The treasure hunt though takes place on Easter Sunday, with the Gamsleiten Party the day before.
While Obertauern is hardly recognised among British visitors considering a high Austrian resort, the area does have good snow reliability usually and a long season (in a ‘normal’ year). And it’s handily placed for exploring the Salzburg region.
