Breckenridge ski area expansion

The cute ‘Wild West’ style resort of Breckenridge in Colorado will be expanding its ski area by almost 25%
Vail Resorts, which owns Breckenridge ski area, has announced that the US Forest Service has given permission for the first expansion of the resort since 2002. A new fast six-pack plus a new fixed-grip (slow) chairlift will be built to open up 534 acres of terrain on a new mountain (Peak 6). The new terrain will include 400 acres served by the lifts and a further 143 of slopes that you’ll have to hike to. There will be both groomed intermediate trails and ungroomed bowls and the extra terrain will represent a 23% increase in the size of the ski area.
It is hoped that this expansion will happen in time for the start of the 2013/14 season.
