Free skiing in Killington this weekend

With heavy rain this week and more on the way, Killington is better for mountain biking
Last night, Killington in Vermont decided to wrap up its ski season this weekend, by offering free skiing and snowboarding.
The resort had been aiming to keep going into June, but after pouring rain on Wednesday night, and more forecast for the next few days, it has admitted defeat. The base is now 36in (92cm) — and as the picture shows, the mountain is now better suited to summer mountain biking.
“Ma Nature is charging into summer and has other things in mind for us other than skiing, like golf and mountain biking. To push any remaining snow to make connecting bridges would only hasten the melt process,” said the ski resort in a statement, warning that walking between snowfields “will be required” in several spots.
Killington will be open for free tomorrow (Saturday 25 May) and Sunday 26 May from 8am to 5pm on the Superstar lift and trail. For more details click here.
Nine ski areas are still open in North America, including Arapahoe Basin, which is aiming to keep going until 2 June and has 32 trails and four lifts still open. A-Basin holds its “The Beach” party, and is reporting a 134cm base depth.
Skiing continues at Whistler Blackcomb in Canada, with a 48in (121cm) base depth, and Aspen, which has 32 trails open thanks to a 71in (180cm) base depth. Despite the winter season in Aspen officially finishing on 14 April, the resort has opened the Ajax Express and the Gondola, and reports 30cm of new snow in the past week.
Snowbird in Utah is celebrating its official closing weekend, and Mammoth Mountain in California is still open, supported by a 60in (152cm) mid-mountain base depth. In Oregan, Timberline Lodge, south of Mount Hood, and Mount Bachelor are open this weekend, as is Crystal Mountain in Washington, which plans to stay open until 16 June.
