The race weekend that brings together teams of city bankers and ski celebrities to the slopes each season is to move location after 12 years.

The City Ski Championships, founded and organised by Momentum Ski, will make a debut appearance in Crans-Montana, Switzerland, next March – whose World Cup course is said to be ‘perfect’ for the main competitions.

For the past 12 years, the event has taken place in swanky Courmayeur, Italy, attracting over 200 skiers to the full weekend of racing, partying, guiding and coaching.

Its value for money stay has been a key appeal too, although Momentum Ski report that they may retain the same lift pass rates as this winter to entice entrants to Crans-Montana – which is notably more expensive overall in terms of a skiing holiday.

The Swiss venue has been chosen to allow the event to develop. And while you might be wondering about the transfer differences for a weekend, the company will lay on a flight to Sion instead of Geneva – simply a much better arrival point and only 35 minutes from the resort.

This year’s Championships went with its usual success and under sunny Italian skies. Among the celebrities invited to take part was Graham Bell (yup, back in resort after last week’s Ski Solutions press trip), Damon Hill (of car, not ski racing fame) and Konrad Bartelski (three times Olympic skier).

The Crans-Montana event is set for 15th to 18th March 2012.
