Low-cost airline easyJet is launching a route from Southampton to Geneva this winter, the first time the airline has ever operated from the Hampshire airport.

The new service will operate three times a week on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, starting on 14 December. Flights are on sale today, with one-way fares starting from £31.99 per person.

Where to Ski and Snowboard’s web editor Abi Butcher lives close to the airport and is delighted at the increase in the number of ski flights to Southampton — previously only FlyBe has flown the Southampton-Geneva route.

Dave Lees, managing director of Southampton Airport, said: “We are very excited to announce that easyJet will be commencing operations to Geneva three times a week from Southampton Airport this winter. I am sure that our customers from across the region will be pleased to have even more choice for reaching the ski slopes from December onwards. We look forward to welcoming easyJet to Southampton later in the year.”

Southampton becomes the 139th airport in easyJet’s network, and the airline expects to fly more than 10,000 passengers this winter using its Airbus A380 aircraft.

easyJet is also launching a new Saturday flight from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Åre Östersund in Sweden which will start on 16 December 2017.
