The future of Glencoe Ski Centre in Scotland looks brighter again, following a last ditch attempt to save the resort from another possible closure.

In an official press release, the centre announced an agreement between David Campbell and a group of snow enthusiasts headed up by Falkirk businessman Andy Meldrum that will ensure the centre is open this winter. Andy used to teach skiing and run his own outdoor centre at the Spittal of Glenshee so believes that he and his team, with community support, will be able to make Glencoe a successful, year-round destination.

Speaking about the decision, Glencoe resort manager, Bobby Munroe said: ‘this is really great news for Glencoe snow sports enthusiasts, for Scottish skiing and for local employment. We’ve got a lot of work to do to be open for the start of the season, but we’re all up for the challenge.’

And Bobby Williamson from the Glencoe ski patrol added: ‘the resort with Scotland’s premier ski and snow board terrain and an enviable weather record has been thrown a lifeline.’

To celebrate, season passes are being discounted to £250 (normally £300) until the end of November. And the new owners plan to improve facilities at the ski area, as well as develop more summer activities. For starters, the mountain café will start the season with a new ‘home baked’ menu.
