The traditional and historic Austrian ski resort of Kitzbühel will this year again be open for spring skiing until 1 May.

The iconic resort enjoys one of the longest ski seasons in the Alps for a non-glacial area and this season opened on 13 October, giving more than 200 days of skiing this season. The ski area has top-notch snowmaking serving many of its 230km of pistes and ski routes, many of which are north-west facing.

Nearly all Kitzbühel’s runs will stay open until the end of March or early April. Quite a lot of terrain in the Resterhöhe sector above Pass Thurn and in the Hahnenkamm, Ehrenbachhöhe, Steinbergkogel and Pengelstein sectors above Kitzbühel and Kirchberg is open till Easter Monday (22 April). And a few runs in the Hahnenkamm sector are open until 1 May.

Mid-March sees the resort alive with James Bond themed events

And there’s much going on in Kitzbühel. On 15 and 16 March the annual James Bond themed events will take place and this year it’s Moonraker which they say will ‘turn the legendary ski resort into a wild space fantasy’. The event includes a race down the Kitzbüheler Horn, a Fireball Gala and the contestant who outplays all others at the Casino and in the race will become the King or Queen of Fireball 2019.

Things promise to be much tamer at Easter when colourful Easter eggs and chocolate rabbits will be much in evidence. On 13 April this year’s Giant Easter Egg will be unveiled. And shops in the village centre will try to outdo each other in the Easter window display competition.

Back on the ski slopes, Kitzbühel is offering savings on normal lift pass prices starting on 10 March and a “ski for four days and pay for only three” offer, perfect for skiers looking for a short break . See late season lift pass offers
