New Salzburg flights carry skis for free

German company, cheap flights from the UK. Salzburg served!
German budget airline Air Berlin has just launched new flights to Salzburg from London Stansted for 2010/11 – and in addition to the new flights, will carry ski equipment free of charge. [Yippee!]
The new route will operate four days a week, from Thursday to Sunday, from 2 December until 31 March. What’s more, the airline has also just announced that in addition to the 6kg cabin baggage and 20kg of hold luggage, one set of winter sports equipment can be carried free of extra charge.
This applies to all Air Berlin flights, though you need to book by phone and give 48 hours notice that ski carriage is required. This additional service is now available for booking by telephoning the airline’s Service Centre on 01805 737 800 (€ 0.14/min.).
We checked out flights for the first week of February 2011: the lowest fare was £68 return (Thursday-Thursday). A Thursday to Sunday was £102 – including taxes. There was no charge for baggage!
Air Berlin joins Germanwings to offer new winter opportunities for British skiers to the Alps – Germanwings recently announced a new timetable of flights from the UK to Friedrichshafen, which handily replaces the gap left by Ryanair’s departure from using the airport this coming winter.
