The world of skiing
Fancy a bit of nostalgia on your wall? Two skiing-related auctions take place in London this week: one of vintage winter sports posters, the other to support our Winter Olympic hopefuls.
Pick up a poster
Up to 300 winter sports posters will go under the hammer in London on Thursday 21 January.
Many of the old ski posters date from the early 20th century and depict various resorts right up to the 1950’s – looking back at almost 100 years of skiing history, so they are quite unique. Included among them will also be various Olympic posters, which are likely to raise a high bid from enthusiasts.
New luxury chalet tour operator Consensio holidays is supporting the auction – as they will also do for the British Ski and Snowboard Team’s Winter Olympic event on Tuesday 19 January.
Support the team
The Olympic auction, also at Christie’s, is set to raise money for the team’s training and competition costs as they prepare to set off for Canada next month. Lots of skiing and boarding related goodies will be auctioned off, including some fabulous holidays from leading tour operators. You could be jetting off to St Moritz or going heli-skiing in Canada … The event is on for the whole day and there will be a chance to meet various sporting celebrities too.
