The season opening FIS World Cup event in Sölden will go ahead as planned on 24/25 October.

A couple of weeks ago the FIS Alpine World Championships in Sölden looked doubtful, with low snow depths and limited slopes open on the Rettenbach glacier. Snowfall that usually arrives in late September or early October is later this year – but it’s here now though!

With cold temperatures and plenty of fresh snow last week, officials have announced that there is no problem with snow cover; the FIS races will go ahead at the weekend. Racers have been making the most of the new snow to train on the Rettenbach’s slopes. It’s been sunny and cold, though some rain/snow is forecast on Friday - and, unfortunately the temperature is due to rise with its arrival. There are 22km of slopes open at present.

Racing begins with the women’s giant slalom on Saturday 24 October, followed by the men’s races on the Sunday.
