The southern French and the Italian Alps had the best of the early snowfalls this season.

That meant that Serre Chevalier was able to ‘pre-open’ a week ahead of schedule last weekend, with 80cm of snow at the top of the mountain and 30cm in the valley. Its central Villeneuve and Chantemerle sectors were open with gondola access.

The ski area will open again next weekend, from Fri 7 Dec to Sunday 9 December.

Then it will be closed midweek before opening again for the rest of the season from Sat 15 December, with a concert and DJ in Chantemerle from 4pm on 16 Dec to celebrate.

More on Serre Chevalier coming soon…
