Skiers flock to Scottish slopes

Nice! Nevis Range in winter white
Over 10,000 skiers and boarders took to the Scottish ski areas over the weekend, the wintry weather creating some of the best early season conditions for years.
Four of the five ski areas are now open. Nevis Range enjoyed its earliest start in a decade or more, reporting excellent conditions. Only Glencoe has yet to open. Mountain rescue teams are warning visitors to take extra care though, with avalanche warnings in force.
Up to 5cm fresh overnight snow and freezing temperatures gave excellent weekend skiing at Nevis Range. There is full cover on the upper mountain, and top-to-bottom skiing to the gondola station. Goose Gully is looking particularly good - one of the runs that holds the best snow usually on the Aonach Mor slopes. Four lifts opened, and weekend skiing is expected to continue until 18 December (when the resort officially opens full time for the season).
Here’s a blustery video update from Cairngorm – plenty of snow in the background, as you can see by the drifts.
