Slovakia’s slopes get closer
Jasná, Slovakia
Slovak airline, Danube Wings, has launched new direct flights between the UK and the city of Poprad – close to the High and Low Tatra mountains.
In a move to fill the gap left by the demise of Sky Europe, Danube Wings has leased aircraft from Czech Airlines to operate flights out of London Luton, Manchester and (later) Dublin airports.
The new flights begin on 6 December and are seen as a very positive sign for the country’s growing ski industry – British skiers and boarders will be able to take advantage of low cost flights to reach the main resorts in the region, some of which are within a fifteen minute drive from Poprad. And Slovakia’s largest resort Jasná is about an hour away.
The London Luton-Poprad route will operate three times weekly during the 2009/10 season, and the Manchester route twice weekly.
