Snowcross a hit in Cairngorm

The Olympic skier cross event in Whistler earlier this season
Brits got a taste of the latest snow sport craze last weekend, when Cairngorm Mountain in Scotland hosted the Saab Challenge – the UK’s first national ski and snowboard cross event.
There were plenty of keen participants for the challenge, which was organised by Snowsport Scotland and Aberdeen Snowsports Club. Saab sponsored the event.
On hand to cheer on the competitors was former Olympic skier, Alain Baxter. He commented: ‘The Championships at the weekend were thrilling to watch and it was fantastic to see such a prestigious sport coming to the UK. It was also great to see a well-known company like Saab supporting the event.’
The men’s Scottish Skier Cross Champion title was won by Scott McBain. Scott, 23, is a member of the Scottish Alpine Ski Team and British Development Team. He is also a full time ski racer. Sarah Norton, 19, won the women’s event; Sarah is also a full time ski racer.
The men’s Scottish Boarder Cross Champion title went to Kevin Clark, an army mechanic just returned from Afghanistan. Kevin is member of the British Army snowboard team. The women’s title was won by Anna Dawson, 29, from Aviemore and a former snowboard instructor at Cairngorm Mountain.
