The snowy equivalent of Tough Mudder will take place in snow domes across the UK this year. “SnowStormer” bills itself as the UK’s first ever “snow-based obstacle run” and will kick off in July at the Snozones in Milton Keynes and Castleford and Manchester’s Chill Factore.

The events will be set over a 5km course with around 25 obstacles including tunnels, slides, big airbags and ice walls — using outdoor facilities as well as indoor slopes.

Organisers say that thanks to the sub-zero temperatures and challenge of the 15-degree inclines of the slopes, the 5km course will feel more like a 10km expedition demanding competitors run, climb, tunnel and slide — as well as tackle a big airbag at the finish.

Set over a 15-degree incline and with sub-zero temperatures, the 5km course will feel more like 10km+ expedition and is guaranteed to challenge even the most ambitious adventurer. Challengers will run, climb, tunnel and slide across 25 obstacles incorporating both the indoors and outdoors, including a big airbag finish for the very bravest.

SnowStormer has been founded on the principles of arctic training — research has shown that running in the cold temperatures makes the body work at a higher intensity and burn more calories.

“Our SnowStormer events combine the UK’s love for obstacle courses with the principles of arctic training and of course a lot of fun in between. We think it offers participants a truly unique experience,” said Chris Wood, chief executive officer of SnowStormer. “Steeper, colder and more exhilarating than anything before it – it really is the ultimate experience for new and seasoned competitors.”

After each event an après ski party will take place to reward finishers with themed street food, cocktails and DJs in the basecamp “Finishers’ Village” - hopefully with some beautiful sunshine to boot.
