- Lots of genuinely challenging skiing
- Some excellent woodland runs
- Car-free, mainly convenient villages, including cute 1950
- Some quiet alternative bases

The downside
- Original village centres lack charm, and aren’t the most convenient

Summary
We’ve always liked Les Arcs’ slopes: they offer long descents, plenty of steep stuff, and woods to head to in a storm. And for those who really like to travel on skis, the link to La Plagne takes you into the Three Valleys league.
We’ve never been keen on the functional main villages. We’re aware that their various architectural styles are highly regarded by some; we’re not among them, but our real objection is to their dreary, depressing mall-style shopping centres. Arcs 1600 and 1800 are not the most convenient of resorts, either. Newer Arc 1950 is something else: a resort that’s not only more pleasant to inhabit than the others, but also very conveniently arranged.
News – this season 2011/12
A six-pack replaced the slow Mont Blanc chair and a drag lift above it, from Arc 1600 to Les Deux Têtes. A new spa and swimming pool complex opened in Arc 1950. And the first phase of apartments in the new Eden Arc development opened above Arc 1800. There’s also a new toboggan run at Col de la Chal, prices from 7.50 euros per descent.
News – last season
A fixed-grip quad opened at the southern end of Plan-Peisey to improve access to the main lifts from there.
And a new lift – a J-bar – replaced the chair serving the terrain park.
At Arc 2000, a rope tow was installed on the flat area below the Arcabulle chairlift and a covered moving carpet was added to the nursery slopes.
