Summary
Brides les Bains is a quiet spa town in valley below Méribel, and is connected to it by gondola. It is probably best known for serving as the 1992 Winter Olympics village. The main attraction is that the place offers a cheaper alternative to the higher resorts and makes a sensible base for visiting other ski areas in the region. The gondola up to Méribel is a long, tedious ride that does not run in the evenings, but accesses a couple of small chalet developments part way up and some decent off-piste when conditions permit.
News – this season 2011/12
Méribel news: The upper stage of the Saulire gondola from Méribel was replaced by a faster eight-seater meeting the cable car up from Courchevel (easing pedestrian access to the other resort). The lower stage will be replaced for 2012/13. A new green run links the mid-station to the Blanchot piste to create a gentle run all the way to the resort.
News – last season
Méribel: In the Altiport area, a new family fun park (Acticross) was created. At Mottaret, the Doron ‘Zen’ beginner area was improved and a new magic carpet installed.
