Summary
Meiringen’s claims to fame include Sherlock Holmes – the fictional detective whose creator Conan Doyle was a regular visitor and a keen skier – and the meringue – the oh-so-sweet dessert that was created here and named after the town. Its ski area, on the other hand, is rather less well known in the UK these days. Yet this pleasant resort and its varied slopes at Hasliberg make it a sensible choice for families and intermediates who are content with limited slopes, and for those wanting to spend time on other activities. It is also good for short breaks and a worthwhile outing from the nearby Jungfrau resorts. For a good-value, relaxing break away from the crowds Meiringen is worth a look
