News – 2016/17

Two new mountain restaurants are being built on the linked slopes of Alpbach and Auffach: Wurmegg Restaurant will open at Schatzberg (where the Alpbach slopes meet the Auffach slopes), and the Wiedersbergerhorn Hütte will re-open, having been rebuilt after a fire.

Summary

Niederau is the main resort in the Wildschönau and has long been a favourite resort with British families. Given decent snow, it is a good area for beginners and intermediates. It is quite spread out, with a cluster of restaurants and shops around the gondola station forming the nearest thing to a focal point. The local ski area is very small - you can ski most of it in an hour or two. A free bus goes to Auffach’s slopes 7km away, and these are now linked to Alpbach in the next valley. Our mountain facts relate to the whole of the area covered by the new Ski Juwel lift pass, but our ratings relate to the local slopes. The main Ski Juwel area is covered by the Alpbach page.
