News – 2016/17

St Anton is being linked to Lech-Zürs to form Austria’s biggest ski area. A new 10-person Flexenbahn gondola from Rauz, near Stuben, goes over a ridge to the mid-station of the new Trittkopf gondola above Zürs, from which point there’s a piste down to Zürs. You ride the Flexenbahn back – there is no piste down to Rauz. Also from Rauz, a new 10-person gondola takes you to near the top of the Stuben ski area – cutting out the need to use two successive slow, cold, double chair lifts from Stuben. The lower of these chairs will remain in place for access to the slopes from Stuben, running up to the mid-station of the new gondola.

Summary

Stuben is a friendly, unspoiled village over the Arlberg pass from St Anton. St Anton has long been accessible by lift from nearby Rauz, but now the brand new Flexenbahn gives access to Lech-Zürs too. A slow double chair is still the way into Stuben’s underused area of local slopes, but another new gondola also runs up the hill from Rauz. It’s a great place for intermediates to potter happily or for experts to discover some wonderful off-piste descents.
