Summary

Bourg-St-Maurice is a bustling valley town that is marketed as part of the Les Arcs ski area – it is linked to the slopes by a funicular to Arc 1600. It’s also a great base for exploring other resorts in the Tarentaise region – notably La Rosière, Ste-Foy, La Plagne, Tignes and Val d’Isère. Direct rail services stop at the TGV station next to the funicular, making the town a great option for rail travellers. There is a wide choice of good-value shops, restaurants and accommodation – including luxury apartments. Getting up to Arc 1600 takes about seven minutes; be aware, though, that the funicular service stops early in the evening – so après-ski beers on the hill need to be kept within bounds.

News – this season 2011/12

The slow Mont Blanc chair from Arc 1600 and a drag lift above it are due to be replaced by a six-pack, going up to Les Deux Têtes.  A new spa and swimming pool complex is planned for Arc 1950.

News – last season

A fixed-grip quad opened at the southern end of Plan-Peisey to improve access to the main lifts from there.  And a new lift – a J-bar – replaced the chair serving the terrain park. At Arc 2000, a rope tow was installed on the flat area below the Arcabulle chairlift and a covered moving carpet was added to the nursery slopes.
