Review of Saalbach-Hinterglemm
Spent an excellent week in Saalbach-Hinterglemm in March 2008. I would say that Hinterglemm is better than Saalbach for beginners / intermediates: more slopes & lifts, more north facing, easy access. Saw no queues on any of the upper lifts all week and only a couple on the lower ones.
Some of the blue runs felt more like reds and were best in the mornings having been well bashed overnight. Plenty of variety of runs to choose from and as an intermediate skier I could easily have managed a 2nd week without getting bored of the same terrain.
We stayed at the Theresia hotel which I rated highly: clean, comfortable, great food (and lots of), cheerful and helpful staff. After a hard day on the pistes an hour in their spa worked wonders for tired muscles every night!
Whatever you do, don’t miss the really good, 2-mile toboggan run in Hinterglemm from the top of the Reiterkogl gondola. Runs from 6.30pm - 9pm every night and costs a mere 5 euros for as many descents as you want: bargain of the week (and such fun).
