Where to Ski And Snowboard -

Review of Schladming

14th March 2011 by Jon Widdows

Nine of us had a fantastic week skiing in mid Jan. Considering there hadn’t been much snow the pistes were in excellent condition. We were all intermediates and as previous reviews have mentioned it was an ideal resort to get some miles under our belts. Favourite runs were Red and Black No 1 on Hauser Kaibling, Red No 1 top to bottom on Planai, Red 31 and 40 on Hochwurzen and Red 5 on Reiteralm. Used the skiline system every evening to clock the day’s mileage. Après ski was mainly in the Hohenhaus - big, lively and good fun. Even got to see Guildo Horn! Apparently a German Eurovision star from the 90s. Schladming wasn’t particularly busy, as might be expected for mid Jan, but the resort was preparing for the night race the following week and I cannot think how they fit 50,000 people in! Can’t comment on the mountain huts as tend not to remember names but quality and price were always very good. Stayed in the Hotel Kirchenwirt. A bit dated but great staff and the food was excellent. Travelled with Thomson/Crystal but if went back would do it independently.
