Where to Ski And Snowboard -

Review of Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis

I have been visiting Serfaus every year or two since an Austian ski instructor in Landeck pointed down the valley to his home town and recommended it for the family more than 20 years ago! And I have been pleased to see you hadn’t given it a chapter in your book each year – but guess now the secret is out!

This, in my opinion – having skied at more than 40 Austrian resorts over the years – is the best mixed ability resort in Austria.

Accommodation: mostly half board hotels with extensive facilities. We prefer the typical B and B places, of which there are a few – particularly in Serfaus, which is our preferred base as the largest of the villages.

Mountain: agree the area best suits the confident intermediate but the good snow conditions (due to relatively high base) and excellent piste preparation mean improving beginners and early intermediate can find some sympathetic pistes to boost confidence. For beginners, especially children, the ski school set up is superb. Absence of English not a major problem as majority of visitors are Dutch and therefore mostly taught in English.

Après ski: Don’t look beyond Patschi Pub at the base in Serfaus. Usual jolly music, boots on the tables and bar set on fire! Not as extreme as some resorts (St Anton, Ischgl etc) but all the better for it, as you can happily take your 6 (and 60 )year old in!

Prices: Not cheap but good value. Think Kitzbühel not Lech.

Getting there: Best way is flight to Innsbruck then 1 hour taxi ride. About 3.5hr drive from Munich.

Went in March 2016, giving it a miss this year – might be wrong decision!
