Review of Passo Tonale
We went to Passo Tonale on March 17 for one week in 2012. The snow conditions were poor, and the south facing slopes, where 99 per cent of the runs are, were just white ribbons on a brown hillside.Tthe north facing black run and 2 red runs on the glacier were in much better condition. The resort is linked by piste or gondola to the much lower but north facing Ponte di Legno. The red runs here are much better than anything in Passo Tonale; also the mountain restaurants are nicer, and the views from the one at Valbione is like a miniature Lake Louise, with its lake and mountain backdrop.
We went with Crystal Holidays and stayed at the Miramonti hotel which was excellent. Crystal also offer a day’s outing to Madonna di Campiglio which was well worth it, but make sure you buy the area lift pass. The skiing in Passo Tonale is ideal for beginners, but intermediates will get bored very quickly. It’s just very short up and down runs and you spend most of the day going up ski lifts. On the last day of our holiday we decided to ski all the runs in the resort including the glacier and black run, and this took us 3 hours to complete. So thanks to the day out in Madonna and the link to Ponti de Legno we managed to get a decent week’s skiing.
