Consider magical Megève for your skiing holiday

Megève is off the beaten track from the main tour operators
France still tops the Brits’ list of favourite places to ski, and the Megève offers relaxed cruising and amazing views in a traditional medieval town off the beaten track from the main tour operators.
The picturesque French ski resort is just one hour’s drive from Geneva, and this January has a packed series of events to keep the whole family interested.
From 8 to 11 January, Megève hosts a leg of the Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup — a “no holds barred” adrenalin-filled and exciting race.
“If your interest is piqued then there’s a (more gentle) permanent skier cross piste set up on the Rochebrune mountain where you can try your hand and see how you handle rolling bumps and jumps at high speed!” says Elizabeth Cahir of family company and Megève specialist Stanford Skiing.
The Grand Odyssey Savoie de Mont Blanc, a 1,000km dog sledding race, passes through Megève on 16 January. One of the most difficult dog and sled race in the world, this is real endurance racing and a perfect opportunity to see the dogs and mushers at work.
Finally, from 23 to 26 January, Megève hosts the BMW Polo Masters on snow. The fast and furious games are free for spectators, and a perfect addition to your holiday, says Elizabeth, who runs Stanford Ski with her father.
The family-run Stanford Skiing is one of only a handful of tour operators that cover Megève, and it is the only company to offer a full range of catered chalets, self-catered apartments and holidays with the hotels in the town as well as a transfer service from Geneva airport to resort.
Stanford offers short breaks or week-long stays in a range of accommodation, with prices in a catered chalet or hotel starting at £520pp for the week commencing 5 January (excluding flights) or £310pp for three nights from Sundays (excluding flights and transfers).
